SPRING CLEANING {LAUNDRY DETERGENT}

3.27.2014

We're back today with our third DIY cleaning product, laundry detergent. There are a bunch of laundry detergent tutorials out there for both powder and liquid, this is the one I like the most. I find it very effective, super inexpensive to make and it's the perfect clean scent for my scent-sensitive husband. For this you'll need an empty container, borax, washing soda and fels naptha soap.

1. Measure out 2 cups each of the borax and washing soda and dump them into your container.

2. Use a cheese grater to shred one bar of fels naptha soap. I like to save a chunk of the bar to use for stain treatment before washing, it works wonders on stains of all kinds. Make sure to clean up the grater immediately after use as this soap is indistinguishable from shredded cheese to the toddler eye. ;)
3. Mix well and use 1 tbsp per load of laundry.

Optional: you can make a larger batch by using the entire box of borax, the entire box of washing soda, and 3 bars of fels naptha. And if you have the bicep stamina to grate 3 bars of soap in one sitting then I applaud you.

  1. This is what I use! I really love it :) Apparently there's a substitute for the bars of soap that a) is cheaper and b) smells like lemon, so that's what I'm going to try next :)
